Goofy Challenge Week 7 Recap
Remember how my week was supposed to look like this?
Monday – Rest
Tuesday - 4 miles, easy
Wednesday - 4 miles, easy
Thursday – 4 miles, easy
Friday – Rest
Saturday – Walk 4 miles
Sunday – 8 miles, 10:30 – 11 minute/mile pace
Well, it turned into the workouts listed above instead. In an attempt to survive the Goofy this weekend, I have been giving my knee as much of a chance at recovery as possible. And that has meant a lot of PT, a lot of ice, a lot of stretching, and a lot of rest. While the race may not be the smartest decision I’ve ever made, it means too much to me to be there with my mom and MIL as they complete their first half marathons (my mom on two artificial knees!) and at that point, I might as well give the Goofy a try. I’d hate to kick of 2013 with a DNS. A DNF is something I might be able to stomach a little bit better. But let’s be honest, I want to bring home all 3 medals

Last week’s mileage totals:
15 miles walked
Goofy Challenge Week 8
And here it is, the plan for race week!
Monday – Rest
Tuesday - 2 miles, easy
Wednesday - 3 miles, easy
Thursday – Rest
Friday – Rest (travel day)
Saturday – Walk the Disney World Half Marathon
Sunday – Run/Walk Interval/Just Survive the Disney World Marathon
I’m not sure I have ever felt less confident before a race before, and I think a lot of that is coming from having no idea what my knee will be like this weekend. Last week I had 2 PT appointments and a sports massage. This week I have another 2 PT appointments and a sports massage Thursday morning. I hope to be feeling good enough to not walk an entire marathon, but I’ll be perfectly honest when I say I expect this sucker to take a good 6 hours. Maybe I’m just getting more bang for my buck out of the crazy expensive race??
Whatever happens, I’m there for a good time, to enjoy the 80 F weather, and to relax. What? You don’t consider 39.3 miles relaxing??
If you want to follow along this weekend, runner tracking is available here. It’s the same system from Philly, so you’ll need my name (Amanda Woerman) to get mobile alerts.
This trip is coming at a time when I really need it (I’m hoping to write a big life update post soon), and the anticipation of getting out of town for the weekend is almost more than I can handle. I’m packing my shorts, my bathing suit, my sunglasses, my running (err, walking?) shoes, and my ID so I can take advantage of the pool bar after the races. For my college friends, that bar is named The Backstretch. It seems appropriate. (That was the name of one of the two bars in my college town.)
Weigh In: Last week I forgot to weigh myself, but guessed I’d be somewhere around 145 lbs, based on my weight from the night before. This morning I made big progress and dropped to 142.2 lbs. I’m hoping to still lose a bit more before we leave (I have a bikini to wear and would prefer to carry less weight for almost 40 miles) but I’m glad I’m getting the holiday weight off pretty quickly!
Your Turn: Are you cheering for Notre Dame or Alabama tonight? I have a serious dislike of the SEC so I’m cheering for Notre Dame. Did anyone watch the new Biggest Loser last night? I’m loving the kids on the show this season. Will anyone else be at Disney this weekend??

Good Luck with Goofy! I’ll be “following” along! I pray your knee will be okay! And how awesome for your mom and MIL!
I know two other bloggers who are doing it! Heather at runningwithsass.com and Jen at runnerstrials.com.
Have a fantastic time!
Thank you!! I’m really hoping it goes well!
I watched Biggest Loser last night, I’ve never really watched it in the past, but I do love that they have the kids on the show this season. It’s great to see how positive they are about wanting to lose weight (in comparison to some of the adults that cried through a lot of it). I was sad about Nate though, he worked SO hard and had quickly become one of my favorites!
I agree! He was definitely one of my favorites! I started watching the show the spring of my first year (was that the year you started working with Marc?) and that season there was this AMAZING girl on it named Tara. She dominated the entire season and was so inspiring; I drew so much motivation from the show as I was starting my own weight loss journey. I love watching it now because it’s so powerful and I love the moments when people like Nathan find such an incredible strength within themselves.
PS It looks like you had an awesome NYE in the city!!!!
Yep! That was the same year. I’ve never been one for reality shows, but Brad wanted to watch it and I’m admittedly already hooked. You’re right, it is really inspiring! NYE was awesome
I’m back in the area now, we should meet up sometime!
I was wondering if you were! We definitely need to get together!!!
